Engine coverage differs by generation and build year. The first generation ran either a 3.2L V6 (standard in early builds) or a 3.6L V6, with a 2.8L V6 entry-level option from 2005. The second generation offered a 3.6L V6 at launch and a 3.0L V6 from the 2010 model year, plus the supercharged 6.2L V8 in the CTS-V. The third generation added a turbocharged 2.0L I4 alongside the 3.6L V6, with a twin-turbo 3.6L V6 in the V-Sport trim and a supercharged 6.2L V8 in the CTS-V. The most significant fitment risk with the CTS is ordering for the wrong platform. Sigma, Sigma II, and Alpha are three distinct rear-drive architectures with no shared suspension geometry or brake components between them. Additionally, the second generation introduced coupe and sport wagon body styles that differ from the sedan in body panels, glass, and some suspension items. The table below maps each generation to its platform and the parts-relevant differences at each transition.

The year overlap between the second and third generations adds a further complication. General Motors began assembling third-generation CTS sedans in September 2013 as 2014 models, concurrent with the final production of second-generation sedans. Second-generation CTS-V coupe production continued into the 2015 model year. The 17-digit VIN resolves generation, platform, and engine code in one step. The three CTS generations share neither a platform nor a parts catalogue. Sigma, Sigma II, and Alpha each represent a distinct suspension architecture, brake geometry, and engine bay layout. A suspension arm sourced for a first-generation Sigma CTS will not fit a second-generation Sigma II or a third-generation Alpha, and vice versa. The simplest way to avoid this error is sending the 17-digit VIN before ordering; the VIN encodes the generation and build year without ambiguity.

Body style is a second fitment variable within the second generation. The Sigma II CTS was available as a sedan (2008–2014), a coupe (2011–2014), and a sport wagon (2010–2014). The coupe and wagon share the sedan's drivetrain and mechanical platform but differ in body panels, glass, and some rear suspension geometry. A rear glass panel, tailgate, or body trim from a second-generation sedan will not cross-fit a coupe or wagon of the same model year. If you are ordering body or glass items for a second-generation CTS, confirm the body style alongside the year and VIN.

The CTS-V is a further fitment boundary within each generation. All three CTS-V generations carried Brembo brake systems with larger rotors and multi-piston calipers specific to the high-performance variant. These Brembo components are not shared with the standard CTS or the V-Sport trim. The first-generation CTS-V ran Brembo four-piston calipers front and rear; the second-generation CTS-V ran Brembo six-piston fixed calipers on the front axle. Ordering CTS-V brake hardware for a standard CTS or vice versa is a fitment error. Send the VIN and we confirm which brake specification your build carries.

ACDelco is the service-parts brand for the CTS across all three generations. ACDelco Gold (Professional) is the OEM-equivalent tier and covers brake pads, rotors, filters, and suspension components for Sigma, Sigma II, and Alpha builds. ACDelco Original Equipment (OE) matches the factory part specification exactly, the appropriate choice when fitment tolerance is critical, as it can be with suspension geometry-sensitive parts on the rear-drive CTS. GM Genuine Parts is the single-tier factory OE line. Both brands are on the shelf at Ras Al Khor for CTS applications across all three generations.

Engine diversity within the CTS model run means service parts are not interchangeable by year alone. A first-generation 3.2L V6 build takes different oil filter and air filter specifications from a 3.6L V6 build in the same generation. The second-generation 3.0L V6 and 3.6L V6 share the model year but have different service item requirements. The third-generation turbocharged 2.0L I4 has its own filter and spark plug set distinct from the 3.6L V6. Aftermarket alternatives are available for CTS where the customer specifies or where the application is cost-sensitive. The same documented-fault warranty terms apply as for the genuine lines: electrical components are non-returnable once fitted.
